Airships

Create: Aeronautics is the reason this server exists. You design a ship, you build it, and then you actually fly it — real physics, not a decorated boat.

Building one

Build it on the ground first, as a normal structure, then assemble it. Once assembled it becomes its own little world that moves independently — which is why ships need their own kind of protection, separate from land claims.

The order that matters

Place → claim → name

Get this backwards and you lose the claim.

A ship claim is bound to the ship’s internal ID. If you pick the ship up with a portable structure item and place it again, it gets a new ID — the old claim is orphaned, your ship is unprotected, and the claim you spent is wasted.

Once a ship is claimed, stop capturing it.

If you see unfamiliar unnamed ships appearing, that’s usually this happening to someone: each capture-and-replace cycle leaves an abandoned ship behind.

Claiming

Place a claim block on the ship. Each claim covers 250 ship blocks, and each one spends a chunk from your FTB Chunks allowance — so a large ship costs several. Details in claims.

Naming

/shipname <name>

Stand on the ship and run it. Until you do, every ship in the claim list just reads ship, which gets confusing fast once you own more than one. The name shows up on the claim screen straight away.

Flying over other people’s land

Land claims are full-height columns. Flying over someone’s claimed chunk puts you inside their claim, at any altitude, and you won’t be able to interact with your own ship while you’re there.

This surprises everyone the first time. It isn’t your ship being broken — it’s whose airspace you’re in. Move off the claim and try again.

Waystones on ships

Don’t put a waystone on an assembled ship. Ship blocks don’t live where they appear to, and warping to one used to take the whole server down. The server now blocks that teleport and tells you why, but the safe answer is to keep waystones on solid ground.

Things that will save you time

  • Test small. Assemble something tiny first and learn the controls before committing to a build you’ve spent hours on
  • Claim before you fly off. An unclaimed ship parked in the open is not protected
  • Name it immediately after claiming — you’ll thank yourself when the claim list has six entries
