Claims & Protection

This is the page that saves you the most grief. There are two separate claim systems and they protect different things.

SystemProtectsCurrency
FTB Chunksland — chunks in the worldyour chunk allowance
AeroClaimsships — the blocks on a sub-levelspends FTB Chunks claims

You need both. Claiming land does not protect a ship, and claiming a ship does not protect the ground under it.

Land claims (FTB Chunks)

Open the map with M and click chunks to claim them.

  • You get 500 chunks to spend
  • Claims are full-height columns — from bedrock to sky. There is no such thing as claiming “just the surface”

Claims go all the way up

A ship flying over someone else’s claimed chunk is inside that claim, at any altitude. Owning the ship doesn’t help. If you can’t interact with your own contraption somewhere, check whose chunk you’re above.

Teams

You can form a party so friends can build with you.

Everyone brings their own allowance. Joining a team doesn’t mean sharing one person’s 500 chunks — each member’s allowance adds to the team pool, and everything the team claims is usable by everyone in it.

Ship claims (AeroClaims)

Ships are protected separately, with a claim block placed on the ship.

Each claim covers 250 ship blocks. Bigger ship, more claims — and each one spends a chunk from your FTB Chunks allowance.

The rule that costs people their ships

Place → claim → name. In that order.

A claim is bound to the ship’s internal ID. Picking a ship up with a portable structure item and putting it back down creates a brand new ID, which orphans the claim — the ship is now unprotected and the old claim is wasted.

Don’t capture a ship you’ve already claimed.

Naming your ship

/shipname <name>

Stand on the ship and run it. The name shows on the claim screen. /shipname info tells you the current name, /shipname clear removes it.

Only the ship’s owner can rename a claimed ship.

If you can’t break or place a block

Work through these in order:

  1. Are you inside someone else’s claim? Open the map with M — claims are full-height, so check even if you’re flying high above them
  2. Is the ship claimed by someone else? Ship claims are separate from land
  3. Did you re-place the ship after claiming it? Then the claim is orphaned — see the warning above. You’ll need to claim it again
